Best Baby Blankets

I never realized how easy it was to get caught up in how many adorable things there were for babies until we started shopping for ours! There are just too many cute clothes, toys, and books out there that it seems impossible to narrow anything down. I’ve been (barely) managing to restrain myself from purchasing just about everything out there–after all, newborns grow so quickly and I want to make sure we’re investing in quality pieces that will last him a long time, and not pieces he’ll only be able to wear once or twice before he outgrows him or the weather changes! However, I think that it’s all right to splurge on a baby blanket, which is such a classic piece and one that can easily become a family heirloom. One of my favorite toys when I was little was a beautiful stuffed bunny that was made from an antique quilt, which I’ve always though was such a creative way to recycle a precious piece.

I decided that I wanted to find a baby blanket that we could use and cherish for years to come, but I’ve run into the same problem–there are too many beautiful ones out there! I’ve made a list of five of my favorites below… now to decide!

Blue Ed Liberty Baby Blanket, Ann Mashburn, $125

This baby blanket is reversible, machine washable (which is crucial!), and looks so soft! I love Liberty prints, and this pattern and colorway can go with just about anything.

Cashmere Blend Baby Blanket, Avoca Handweavers, $85.30
This cashmere and wool baby blanket is handwoven in Ireland at the amazing Avoca Handweavers. I first went to the mill in 2011 and was amazed by the skill and craftsmanship evident in every product. I have such fond memories of Ireland, and this would be such a nice way to share some of them with my son! Plus, who doesn’t love cashmere?

Baby Knit Blanket, Hudson’s Bay Company, $60

My parents bought me my own Hudson’s Bay blanket when I graduated from college in an attempt to keep me from moving to D.C. with theirs. I love it and use it all winter. This knit blanket looks so warm and cozy, and is certainly an instant classic.

Baby Quilt, Roberta Roller Rabbit, $85
I love the fun patterns of Roberta Roller Rabbit’s quilts, clothing, and accessories! The monkey quilt is so charming, and can even match the adorable onesies and adult pyjamas, in case you are as into matching as I am!

Grace Baby Blanket, Swans Island, $295
Swans Island blankets are beautifully handwoven in Northport, Maine, and are instant heirlooms. I love the look of the Grace baby blanket, and, as it’s made from merino wool, it will certainly be warm and soft!
